Cerebellum

The cerebellum, which means ‘little brain’ in Latin, receives its name because of its location underneath the largest part of the brain, the cerebrum or telencephalon. The cerebellum is a part of the hindbrain that plays a significant role in motor control.  It’s also involved in language, emotional control, and the regulation of fear and pleasure. Cerebellum dysfunction can lead to disorders in fine movement, posture control, equilibrium, and motor learning. The cerebellum is located in the hindbrain and next to the pons. This structure can be divided into three lobes based on their surface appearance: the anterior lobe, the posterior lobe and the flocculonodular lobe.
